In the welcome week (21^st Sep to 25^th Sep, 2009) of the University of Birmingham, our Chinese Society committees will be walking around the university introducing our society to you.

If you want to register your membership with us, please come to our society fair on 24^th and 25th of September. Outside the lower ground floor of the Guild of Students, (just opposite the Business School). We will be there in the day time.

If you have missed the society fair, you can contact us and we’ll sort out the membership for you.

在伯明翰大学开学前的欢迎周（9月21日至9月25日）里面，我们学生会的成员将在学校里面向大家介绍我们的学生会。

What did we do during last academic year?

我们在上一个学年里面做了些什么？

Well, before the academic year officially started in 2008, we organized a FREE city center tour for the people who were new to Birmingham.

首先，在2008学年正式开始开始之前，我们组织了一个免费的去伯明翰市中心游览的一次活动。

由于伯明翰大学部在市中心，对于刚到伯明翰的同学来说，一切都是陌生的。我们可以带领你们去市中心，找到商店，中国城，中国超市，参观之类的地方在哪里，更方便刚到伯明翰的学生尽快的融入这里的生活。

We organized basket games, for boys who like sports, and the girls, were the cheerleaders.

我们组织篮球比赛，使喜欢篮球的男生可以得到发挥；而女生们，可以在一旁作为啦啦队，观战，助威！

We organized a day trip to Cambridge.

People could travel cheaper with our society trips and it was a great opportunity of you to meet new people.

我们组织了剑桥一日游。

我们学生会的旅游消费一般都会比自己去要便宜很多，你还得到一个可以认识新朋友的机会。

我们参观英国拥有悠久历史的著名学府，我们在康河上划船，陶醉在康河的柔波中。

去体验一下，当年中国著名文人徐志摩在这里所发出的感叹。

We organized game events like gathering at the Christmas and night before Valentine’s day.

我们组织了很多游戏类节目。

比如在圣诞节和情人节前夕我们举办的活动。

让大家在异国他乡的节日不会感到孤单。

We also had Karaoke event—for relaxing and entertainment.

我们还组织了去KTV的娱乐休闲活动。

As we all know that, to every Chinese, the Chinese New Year is essentially important.

It is the Chinese tradition for families get together just like the western people celebrating their Christmas Day. But for the students who are far away from home, we had a tri-society event with the Far East connection Society (FecX) and the Singapore Society. We hold a dinner event in Chung Ying restaurant in Chinatown.

All the students were happy getting together, and with us, they would never have a lonely festival far away from home!

And for people who are not Chinese, they can experience the atmosphere of a Chinese festival, and they can have an experience of how we Chinese celebrating our traditional festivals.

众所周知，对于每一个华人来说，中国的农历新年都是十分重要的。

像西方国家的圣诞节一样，我们中国的人的传统就是在春节的时候一家团聚，吃一餐团年饭，举家同庆这一美好的时刻。

但是，独在异乡身处海外的留学生们，是没有办法回家的，于是，去年，我们在中国城的中英饭店，和Fecx以及新加坡学生会合办了一个中国农历新年的晚宴。

所有的学生可以聚在一起，不再感受到独处异乡的孤单。

另外，许多外国朋友也可以感受到中国人过中国传统节日的气氛。

We organized a two-day trip to the Isle of Wight, where most students wanted to go, but felt less convenient if organize trips on their own.

我们组织了去怀特岛的旅行。很多同学，都很想去怀特岛，那个地方不仅风景优美，还是当年维多利亚女皇曾经住过的地方。

但是，如果自己单独去怀特岛，有特别的麻烦。

我们和旅行团商量，中国学生会自己组团，在岛上举办的两天一夜游，让很多同学都兴致而归。

Actually, last year, we did more than those above…

事实上，去年，我们做了更多。。。

What are we doing this year?

今年我们将做些什么？

Firstly, we will do what we did last year.

Like a introductory city tour to the new students, Karaoke night, game events, and so on…

And we will absolutely have fantastic events during the western holidays, like Halloween and Christmas, and our Chinese New Year!

首先，我们将延续我们去年所举办过的活动。

比如说，带领新同学游览伯明翰市中心，KTV之夜，游戏活动，等等。

我们还将在西方的假日，比如万圣节，圣诞节，里面举办一些活动。

What’s new?

有什么新东西吗？

1. On the introductory city tour, we’ll organize a lunch gathering in a buffet in Chinatown. You will get a cheaper price than you normally get. And you can meet new friends on that day.

首先，在去市中心的游览活动中，我们将举办一个在市中心的参观的一次自助餐。你可以以比平时低的价格享受这次的自助餐，还可以认识很多的新朋友。

2. We’ll have a society second hand book fair. You can sell your old text books with our society, and hope you can get books you need from us.

我们会举办一次二手书的售书活动。你可以带上你的旧的教材到我们这里售出，也希望你能在这次售书活动中找到你想要的书籍。

3. Like trips we did to Cambridge and isle of Wight, this year, we are going to…………

像去年的剑桥，怀特岛之行一样，今年，我们将去。。。。。。（先卖个关子）

Haha… we are going to Mr. Darcy’s house—the Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

We are going there not because we love the romantic story of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, but also, we like the breath-taking sceneries in the movie.

It is always very difficult to plan your individual trip to that place if you don’t have a car. But with us, and our exclusive discount with the travel agencies, we are sure that you will enjoy this trip!

我们将去“达西先生”的庄园—Chatsworth House。

我们去那里，不仅是因为我们喜欢傲慢与偏见里伊丽莎白和达西先生的浪漫爱情故事。还因为，我们喜欢电影里面拿美丽的景色。

而这个地方，也是自己单独去的话，非常不方便也耽误时间的。

4. We are planning a theme park trip, like we did one to Alton Tower the year before last.

This year we are going to either Blackpool or Dryaton Manor.

前年，我们组织去了一次Alton Tower的一日游。

今年，我们也将组织去主题公园的活动。今年，我们去Blackpool或者是Drayton Manor。

And we are still working on other plans to give you a wonderful University year with Chinese Society!

我们中国学生会的成员们正在计划在即将到来的新的学年将举办的活动。加入我们，你一定能渡过一个丰富的大学学年！
