Oct 2

I would like to say thank you to those people who came to our last mini event last Saturday, where we took a small group of people on a guide around Birmingham city centre. I hope you enjoyed it and ready to join more Chisoc events.

Our next event will be a dim sum (special Chinese lunch) at China Court Restaurant.

  • Event: Chisoc Dim Sum
  • Date: Saturday 4th October
  • Start Time: 2pm
  • Finish: 4pm
  • Price: around £6

Meeting up at University station at 1.30pm
New St at 1.45pm
China Court Restaurant at Chinatown at 2pm

We will be partly subsidizing the event, so that members can have a good time but pay at a discounted (cheaper) rate. We are limiting the amount of people coming to the event to 30 people (first come first serve basis), so if you want to come, you need to reply to this email and send your reply to Sissi on hq-98@hotmail.com. With your reply, please state your name and how many friends you will be bringing, so that you can be sure that your seat is reserved.

Donate at www.redcross.org.uk

Many of you have been asking how to give donations for the China earthquake. The University of Birmingham Chinese society are sending this appeal to everyone within our reach - please donate to help the Red Cross provide relief and longer term aid. Spread the word - it’s easier to help than you think.

Roads and communication lines have been severely disrupted, and heavy rains are forecast, which will further complicate rescue efforts.

Soon after the earthquake struck, volunteers from the Red Cross Society of China were on the ground distributing emergency relief to the survivors. But as the situation continues to unfold, more help is urgently needed to prevent further loss of life.

People need food, clean water and shelter to help them survive the immediate aftermath of the quake.

The Red Cross is working around the clock to reach those most in need.
